Park City Mountain in Utah starts us off strong with a compilation of some crashes and some makes, but the crashes in particular are worth looking at.

Right around the middle is an exceptional crash--and splash--made by a bold skier in bright pink (or is it red?) who skims across the pond on his back. Hey, at least he had goggles on. Watch below.

Honorable mention to the first crash, as well. Water hurts on your skin even though it is "just" water.

I have not personally gotten hurt from a pond skim, but when I lived in Hawai'i there was a massive high dive at the local University. Even though it was the go-to activity for a couple months with my friends, I learned pretty quick that when water is still, and you're coming at it with a high speed, it leaves a mark.

So, respect to the skimmers.

Solitude, also in Utah, released a video purely to celebrate the best crash.

"You asked for a jump, and we added a jump. Your 23/24 Solitude Pond Skim Beach Party best crash." Watch below.

Even though it's just water, it still looked painful. Anytime there's a yardsail (this counts, I think, because his ski came off) you have to imagine there was some sort of bruise the next day.

Crash reels are, perhaps, as much of a tradition as pond skims themselves.

There are plenty more pond skims happening this season before resorts close until next winter. So, here's to hoping everyone who participates gets a good skim. And, if they don't, here's to hoping someone gets it on video.
