Philadelphia Eagles Could Pursue Former Superstar Free Agent Defensive Back
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles are feeling very good about the work that they put in during the NFL offseason. Even though they lost both Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox to retirement, there were many improvements made to the roster. While they’ve made plenty of moves already, they are without a doubt still open for business if an opportunity presents itself to improve even more.

At this stage of the offseason, roster moves have slowed down dramatically. However, there are always some bargain free agency deals to be had this late in the offseason as well.

Looking at the available free agents, there are a few that could fit in with the Eagles. One, in particular, is drawing some buzz as a potential move Philadelphia should make.

Philadelphia Eagles Could Pursue Former Superstar Defensive Back

Bleacher Report recently mentioned a few free agents that could be realistic targets for the Philadelphia Eagles. One that stands out is former superstar safety Jamal Adams, who has yet to find a new team.

“Signing hybrid safety/linebacker Jamal Adams could give the Eagles even more depth in the back seven while providing new coordinator Vic Fangio with a versatile chess piece.”

Adams has seen his career get derailed by multiple injury issues over the last couple of years. Despite the bad injury luck, he’s had an offseason to get healthy and still possesses a unique skill-set. As a safety, he’s able to move up to more of a linebacker role, can rush the passer, and make plays in the defensive backfield.

There are very few players around the NFL that can make the kind of impact that a healthy Adams can make.

Add in the fact that the Philadelphia Eagles could likely sign Adams on a team-friendly contract and things get even more intriguing. That being said, there are other teams around the NFL that could sign Adams. If the Eagles want to add him to their secondary, they will need to move soon.

At 28 years of age, Adams is well worth a one-year contract to have a chance to prove himself once again. In just nine games last season with the Seattle Seahawks, Adams ended up with 48 total tackles and two defended passes.

Those numbers may not be amazing, but they do show that he can still play at a solid level. He may never get back to the superstar level that he used to play at, but he’s still capable of making an impact. The Philadelphia Eagles should take a flier on him.
